Passing without knowing
Richard Horne – A man consumed with pride, a man consumed with tumours. One had been hiding the other. Sadly he passed away last night, silently and peacefully. I suspect he wouldn’t want to be a bother to anyone. I saw him on Sunday, and he looked older than his years, but he still had that twinkle in his eye as he watched and listened to the conversation around him.
Technically he is my...

Riding in the dark
So today was the first day, or should that be night, that I have ridden my bike home in the dark. With the change from British Summer Time to normal GMT there was no choice. I knew this day would come but that practising with the twilight, as we lost 5 minutes of daylight a day, doesn’t really prepare you!
So what was it really like? Well, actually, not that bad at all. I thought I...

The City and the Country
I don’t know about you, but have you ever been on holiday and thought, “I can live here”? Now being on holiday has got to be better than being at home, otherwise let’s face we wouldn’t go on holiday!
A few weeks ago we were away in Devon and it got me thinking, “Could I live here?”
You see, with an affinity for the sea (and by sea I mean any body of...

Ignited
This week has been a busy one in the faygate household and at work. Mrs faygate has started her Sing and Sign teaching again for the term, my new team leader started at work and the small boy’s after school clubs restarted. Top that off with the Bristol 10k which I ran this Sunday.
The highlight of the week though was heading into town to Spike Island to attend my, well our, first Ignite...

Friendship
It’s been a funny few weeks. I’ve been thinking and preparing hard for a job interview at work and I’ve celebrated another birthday. This has led to me thinking about friendship and the bonds we make with people. Now I confess I’m probably not the best of friends to have, I’ve got a bit of a dark aura and I guess I’ve always been a bit of loner. However that...

Commuter Challenge
Last summer I took the opportunity to supplement my running with some cycling, which in turn was part of 52 weeks of feeling fit photography project. After the struggle of the first week, using the other set of muscles in my legs, I actually quite enjoyed it.
So last week the opportunity rose again in the form of half-term. No kids to take to school and an understanding boss meant that I could...

Motivational Readings
I’m really pleased that my little one has got the reading bug. I like reading but I don’t know how I passed the bug on to him. I’ve got a pile of books so big to read, they nearly reach up to my thigh!
It seemed easier a few years ago, or maybe that was just when I was holiday. Do you need to have a comfy chair and the warmth of the sun to get you in the mood for a good story?...

Reflections and New Beginnings
For the past three years I have been very narcissistic, become very narcissistic! Okay, I’ve only taken 156 official pictures of myself for the project, when I guess it could have been 1095, but still that’s very vain of me! However, it is now at an end, for now.
Last January I’d already made the decision to get fitter. Something that most people do every January. I tried to...

The last minute challenge
Finishing Sunday’s Cardiff almost-a-Half-Marathon* was probably one of the highlights of the year. I got up at 5:30am to make sure I had time for my usual runner’s breakfast of porridge with some sultanas and almonds, and also to ensure I got a parking space close to the start.
It was dark when I left the house (yep, autumn is well and truly here!), but heading the long way round...

As an IT Geek, this is one of my favourite Dilbert...
Co-worker: Hey! Dilbert. Would you mind stopping by my house after work and seeing if you can fix my computer?
Dilbert: Sure. And while I do that you can be at my house cleaning the grout in my shower.
Co-worker: That's crazy!

Cold Remedy
There’s no cure but I find the following a day helps get over the worst of it:
Paracetamol (every 4 hours)
1 Cod liver tablet
1 Multi-vitamin
1 Zinc tablet
1 Echinacea tablet
Plenty of fluid
and fruit
and a little chocolate! ;o)
and sleep
You are quite insistent and rude. I have complained about your behaviours in the...

Making fake blood
So I finally decided to made some fake blood the other day to use for a photo idea I’ve had in my head for ages. It turns out it’s really easy to make. It tastes quite sweet which is good when you’re glooping it in your mouth, but I wouldn’t want to swallow it!
Honey
Hot water

Blue food colouring
Plain flour
